Hwy 50 reopening at 0800 9/20 for owners only

Good evening, I just got this below message from the USFS

Dear Recreation Residence Permit Holders,

Last night, I sent an email regarding the access status of your recreation residence tracts and the Highway 50 closure.  As often happens on an incident of this scale, things have changed since I last wrote you.  El Dorado County Sheriff and the Eldorado National Forest was able to work with CalTrans and the California Highway Patrol to provide early access to the residence tracts while ensuring they are as safe as possible.  Please note, hazards remain in the area and precautions should be taken during your visitation.

At this time, Highway 50 will open to the general public at 0800 on Tuesday, September 21st.  However, recreation residents who experienced significant damage and loss to their cabins, will be able to access their lots prior to the general public.  Starting at 0800 tomorrow on Monday, September 20th, recreation residents with the attached exemption form will be allowed into the Highway 50 closure to visit their lots.

You will need to visit the sheriff repopulation table PRIOR to meeting the roadblock on the Highway 50.  El Dorado County Sheriff and the Eldorado National Forest will set up an information booth at the gas station at Fresh Pond immediately adjacent to Highway 50 starting at 0800 tomorrow and going until 5 PM.  If you cannot print off the attached permit exemption, please bring a copy of your permit or a billing statement to the Fresh Pond gas station and an exemption will be provided.

Please print off a copy of the attached exemption and carry it with you while accessing the Eldorado National Forest.  Please note that it is different than the permit exemption form sent out last night and now identifies the correct date and time in which you can access your lot.

Please take a few minutes to read the re-entry Health & Safety Information attached to this email before visiting your lot.  We cannot stress enough the need for you to take the proper precautions for your own health and safety when visiting the fire area.  Hazards include burned material, hazardous chemicals, hot ash pits, hazard trees, complex tree felling operations, and increased vehicle traffic.

If you have questions regarding this exemption permit or if you cannot make the times listed in the exemption, please contact Nancy Platt at 530-647-5354.

Regards,

Scot

Here is a link to the form- please print the form and carry it with you- also review the Health and Safety info.

  1. Kathy, do we leave your information at the top of the form with your address, etc. Or do we delete that and enter are own information. I wasn’t sure if this is a USFS thing and your info is supposed to be on there.

And do we know if we are allowed into the tract on Tuesday onward when the highway opens for all? Or is not for USFS roads since the forest is closed til Sep. 30th.

    Thank you!

    • Hi Trina,

I sure dont know- I sent an email earlier today but I am sure they are overwhelmed. I think you should just print the form and take it along with some proof of ownership and you will be fine. As far as what the rest of the week looks like, I think we are all waiting to hear. My understanding is that we will need these kind of passes if the forest is closed and it is supposed to be closed through Sept 30th. As soon as I hear anything I will let you know. The nice thing about tomorrow is that the Highway will still be closed except for property owners getting through. We are going up tomorrow.
